NCVO INTRODUCTION
NCVO INTRODUCTION
For over 100 years, the National Council for Voluntary Organisations (NCVO) has stood shoulder to shoulder with the voluntary sector. Our mission is to champion the remarkable role of charities and volunteers, and help ensure our members, and the wider sector, get the help and support they need to deliver for people and communities. Using our ability to connect and convene, we help make sure the collective voice of charities is heard by those in power; raising awareness of the issues and challenges, and campaigning for a better environment for the voluntary sector. We truly are the charities’ charity and are always looking for ways to support our 17,000 members to do what they do best.
Inequality, climate change, divisive public discourse, public service reform. The challenges our society faces are many, complex and interconnected. As the need in communities grows, the impact is felt at all levels – from the largest charities, to small grassroots organisations.
At NCVO, we’re already delivering brilliant work to support the sector. This year alone we have worked with government to deliver a partnership led approach to the future through the development of the Civil Society Covenant, we have created a match funding campaign with our partners that raised £1.8m for small charities in its first year during Small Charity Week, and we have trained thousands of charity workers to grow and build their skills to ensure organisations have the capabilities they need to succeed.

NCVO Chair

Chief Executive
But to ensure charities are equipped to play their best role in the future, NCVO must continuously evolve and innovate to meet their changing needs. Now, as our current strategy comes to an end, we are beginning the process of developing our future direction – making
this the perfect time to lead the Board through a period of exciting transformation.
As Chair you will lead and develop our refreshed and ambitious Board of Trustees. You will champion and bring the voice of members and the sector to the organization, and support and enable the Chief Executive to drive forward NCVO’s new strategic plan and deliver an ambitious transformational agenda. To be successful, you will have proven track record of strategic leadership, board development and enabling change. You will be well networked with significant experience of influencing policy, opinion formers and decision makers at the highest level.
This is a high profile leadership role with influence across the voluntary sector, and beyond, that will give challenge and reward in equal measure. I hope you are motivated by our ambitions; if you feel you have the right values, skills and experience. I look forward to hearing from you.
